I'll have more, much more, to share soon. I promise. Just as soon as I wipe the mud off my hands and remember to take a picture or two!

We are in the midst of spring planting at Crestwood. The last two weeks, every kindergartener and first grader planted seeds in a salad garden. This week every second and third grader will take a walk in the woods and plant spring ephemerals. Most of the KG and 1st graders planted ephemerals as well. We've had to dodge rainy days and line up volunteers for all these classes. If you think that scheduling all the classes and volunteers with one eye watching the ever-changing weather forecast is a logistical nightmare, well, you'd be right! No surprise, then, that this is the single, solitary photo I have from the flurry of planting in the last three weeks: It's worth all the trouble, though. Everyone should have the experience of getting in the dirt. Kids need to be outside growing things, watching life spring forth beneath their fingertips. To think that every single one of the 400+ students at our school will have the chance to put something in the ground and watch it grow is really quite remarkable. It's an honor to be a part of this.
I'll have more, much more, to share soon. I promise. Just as soon as I wipe the mud off my hands and remember to take a picture or two! Cheers, Susan
