The Herdina/Vogel KG class spent some time investigating pumpkins shortly before Halloween. Students went to the school pumpkin patch and observed how pumpkins grow, noting the vines, the flowers and the mature pumpkins. Then they opened a ripe pumpkin to see what was inside! The children counted the ribs on the outside of the pumpkins and saw how each seed is attached to the inside. After scraping out the strings and seeds, the pumpkins were cut up and baked, the seeds were roasted. Later the students will make muffins with roasted pumpkin. Yum!
