Here's a start, though: a report on the apple blossoms from long-time Crestwood volunteer Eldon Ulrich. This week he sent an email with an excel file tracking high temperatures and blooming patterns, along with the following message:
The Apple Orchard is in full bloom!! Each variety of apple in the orchard came into full bloom on a slightly different day, Liberties on May 3rd (901 blossom degrees), Crimson Crisps on May 6th (983 blossom degrees) and Enterprise on May 7th (1024 blossom degrees).
For comparison, the Red delicious in Wenatchee, WA were in full bloom on April 7th. This was a record early bloom. Their average full bloom date is April 27th at 1040 blossom degrees and the old record, April 9th, was set in 1934. The West had an unusually warm winter and spring this year.
Enjoy the blossoms while they last.
